Against the background of structurally declining margins, Austria is also facing the challenge of efficiently organising the core market and developing new business models. Across the various industry limits, new value chains will evolve. Energy distribution, in particular, becomes the innovative driver of the energy turnaround in this context. This is because the structural change is challenging.
By 2020, renewable energy carriers are to account for a share of 34% in the gross final energy consumption – this corresponds to 108 TWh. This will help to lower CO2 emissions by 20% as against 2005 with the long-term objective being sufficient own generation of renewable energies for the complete coverage of the Austrian power requirement – to be achieved as early as in 2030.
