In future, VPPs will play a central role. The additional opening of system service markets also for small decentralised generation plants and specifically for VPPs, e.g. by reducing the offer periods for individual control energy products, will provide an additional boost for this technology. For example, the penalty payments for a deviation of the feed-in from the specific schedule – the so-called balancing energy – constitute a growing factor for the profitability of generation plants on the German power market. VPPs can respond to unforeseen deviations at short notice through its flexibilisation potential and, as a result, they can help to significantly reduce the costs of balancing energy.

The potential which this creates for e2m VPPs throughout Europe is shown by the current dena-RES-project
