Italy is experiencing a real boom in the generation of power from renewable energies. Generous public funding rates, increasing costs of generating power from fossil fuels and significantly declining plant prices drive this trend. As a result, the roughly 30,000 MW from renewable energies (installed capacity) installed at the beginning of 2010 had actually doubled by 2016. Therefore, decentralised energy generation and supply are increasingly becoming a reality in Italy.
The fundamental change in paradigms in Italy leads to new business opportunities. As in Germany, classic and one-dimensional models, such as generators on one side and consumers on the other side, are dissolving. This also gives VPPs a central key role in order to master the conversion of the power system.
